The
Tipu Sultan fort built by Hyder Ali of Mysore in 1766 is situated
in Palakkad and is the most beautiful and best-preserved fort
of Kerala. It is now preserved by Archaeological Survey of
India. Fort is surrounded by a deep moat; there is a famous
Temple of Lord Hanuman and a Sub-Jail functioning within the
fort walls. Martyr's Column, Open Air Auditorium called "Rappadi"
and Tourism information center are there in the spacious Fort
Maidan (campus). A Vatika and a Traffic park are just on the
side of the Fort, which is much, enjoyed by children.
