People of Nemmara and Vallengy conduct a festival on the 20th Meenam (March-April) every year to invoke the blessings of the Nellikulangara Bhagavathy. The flag hosting ceremony is conducted on 9th Meenum. Following the flag hoisting till the eve of vela, Kummatti, Karivela, Andivela and similar other folk rituals are performed. The festival which is celebrated with all the pomp and splendor, is only second to the internationally acclaimed pooram festival of Thrissur.
