Athipotta Variem Sankaran
Athipotta Variem Sankaran was a Scholar, Voracious
reader, Columnist and Excellent teacher. He was born to Gopala Varrier
and Kunjikkutti Varasyar in Palakkad district on January 12,1925.
He was educated in St.Thomas College, Thrissur and Maharajas College,
Eranakulam. He got the Masters Degree in Sanskrit form Madras University
and another Masters in Pharmaceutical Chemistry from University
of Kerala.
He
was a Demonstrator and Lecturer of Chemistry in various colleges
like Govt. Arts College, Madras, Intermediate College, Thiruvananthapuram,
Victoria College, Palakkad, Chittur Govt. College. He served as
a Research Officer in State Language Institute (on deputation).
He was the Assistant Editor, First Grade in Malayalam Encyclopedia
(on deputation). But he retired from service as the Professor of
Chemistry.
He
was indulged in writing a great book in Sanskrit named "Theerthapadapuranam"
based on the life of Paramabhataraka Vidyadhiraja Sri Theerthapaada
Chattambiswami, since July 1980. He completed the work,
which contained 60,000 slokas, within fifteen years. Apart from
this great piece he wrote many books on Sri Theerthapaada Chattambiswami
in both Malayalam and Sanskrit. He dedicated his life to the expansion
of the works on Sri Theerthapaada Chattambiswami and he constituted
an award- "Hemalathasmaraka Sri Chattambiswami Sahithya Puraskaram"-
for the same in 1994.
He passed away at the age of 76.
